Statement of Intent: Reflection

Additional Intentions
Some things i needed to get off my chest and answer some questions brought up in the SOI feedback

After receiving feedback on my Statement of intent, i Feel i need to elaborate and supply solutions to questions raised, both for my sanity and the benefit of the project. By getting tangled up in my preferred/specialist areas of video production, i missed out some very vital and even essential factors that make a film.

In a short list format, Here are what i will be covering in this post:

- Use of sound
- Colour
- Narrative - Open to interpretation ( Love/Life/Despair/Hate/Emotion
- Camera shot - My definition ( Layer animation and Software Cameras)

Sound

Sound has never been a serious consideration until recent in my film making experiences. Now i do not mean to neglect this very crucial asset to film production, i merely just prefer to let others deal with its complicated self. Now in this production i have planned to eliminated any serious issues that could possibly arise from sound production. I have done this by deciding not to have any sound to back up the narrative of the film what so ever. Instead, I will be outsourcing a piano artist to compose a soundtrack to invoke there personal opinion of the project, while trying to keep my personal feelings involved in the mix. The reason i did not state this in my original intention is as simple as the fact of not knowing about this at the time.

Colour

Colour is decided in two stages of the production.
1. In camera on the shoot
2. In post with colour correction/application/removal

With my project being shot on green screen, this eliminates all other methods of colour decision in camera. The colour and white balance will have to be set to eye equivalent. This will allow for better quality keying in post and the ability to add desired colour in post production. Now as far as colour goes in the post workflow, i am undecided. However i have been looking at specific films that have influenced a liking towards golds and browns. Epic autumn sunset themed colours.

Narrative

The narrative of the short is still somewhat undecided. I could provide many synopsises, and theories behind the script. However, i have decided not to do this as i wish the decision of genre and meaning to be left to the visual interpretation to the viewer. Yes i already have my opinions on what it can mean, but when i wrote the script, i had no narrative based intention, it was solely just a bunch of imaginary cinematic pictures chained together to make a visual film.

Camera

This is a tricky one. I am still in limbo with how much camera movement i wish to do in camera in contrast to animated camera motion in after effects. I am aware that certain shots will benefit from one certain technique. My job is to decide upon what will be needed per each shot presented on the storyboards. When i mention post camera techniques, it will be a combination of the after effects 3d camera animating with two dimensional layers to achieve a three dimensional feel. Also known as 2.5D. Now although i use this technique often, and have become very familiar with its abilities, i am very much neglecting the theory behind 2.5D

So i decided to read an article that explains some technical theory behind this method.

2.5D ("two-and-a-half-dimensional"), also called pseudo-3D, is an informal term used to describe either a) graphical projections and techniques which cause a series of images or scenes to fake or appear to be three-dimensional (3D) when in fact they are not, or b) gameplay in an otherwise 3D game that is restricted to a two-dimensional plane.
In the former case the term is sometimes used interchangeably with "3/4 perspective", in which case it describes games using some form of graphical projection (usually parallel projection) taken from a fixed perspective that reveals multiple facets of an object and offers a wide field of view.
These projections have also been useful in geographic visualization (GVIS) to help understand visual-cognitive spatial representations or 3D visualization.[1]

Nice bit of learning thanks to good old wiki
