Inspiring Visuals: Frank Miller's 300

Frank Millers 300

One of the most spectacular compositing films of the norties. 300 was hyped up to set the new standard of extraordinary film compositing. creating an entire country of the past with nothing but green screens and super sized studio sets.

Every scene in the film is crammed with visual awe. To compliment the graphic novel, Frank Miller desired perfection in the transfer from novel to feature film. No expense or corners were cut with every costume, actor and location to achieve this visual.

In regards to my project, other than the technical use of green screen, the visual has very little in common with 300. The one thing that really does get my mind ticking is the use of colour in the film. A large majority of the external location have a deep golden tone about them. The visual comes across as late summer/autumn time, the golden colours of autumn leaves and the harvest. This was the colour palate i have been visualising for my project. But other things need to be decided before i get ahead of myself with post colour effects. The idea is there. and will touch back on it in the post production.
